292: Marc Methot, publisher of CARtoons Magazine.

Show Date: 01/18/2020

(Season 14 EP 3)

Marc Methot is the crazy publisher of CARtoons Magazine. This magazine has changed ownership several times since 1959. A few drag racing guys and a few cool artists decided to put something together for fun lovin’ kids. It instantly became a favorite rag. As a kid you bought your Mad Magazine and the varment filled CARtoons Magazine. It was put out by the now famous Petersen Publishing Company.

(full disclosure: Arlo is a subscriber and contributor to the magazine… so why aren’t you?)

Through the years the magazine continued with artist like Pete Millar, one of the original founding members, and other artists like George Trosley.

The magazine continued until it was shut down in August of 1991. Many factors contributed to it’s cancellation.

Then in 2015, Marc Methot successfully won the abandoned CARtoons trademark. Marc is a well known artist / cartoonist who feels passionate about what this magazine means for so many kids and artist.

He decided to resume the publication in 2016 with the help of other magazine publishers and artist friends. One of those friends is George Trosley. One of the artist from the original magazine. Since then, others have come forward to contribute their talents.

This interview was conducted at the 2019 SEMA show in Las Vegas.

In this interview we talked with Marc about his future plans for the icon brand, how you can help and a little bit about what it takes to get each issue out.
