The History of Car Clubs
This is an exciting project that Wisconsin Hot Rod Radio along with the help of so many hot rodders.
Back in the 50's and 60's cool cats were choppn', channeling, flaming, strippn' cars. They build drag strips, held cruise nights and hung together. They began forming clubs. The club names were famous among the hot rod scene. And in Wisconsin and Illinois clubs were doing what many of us take for granted today. Names like; Artists Rod & Custom, Cruisen Angels, Mellotones, Cheaters, Torque Twisters and hundreds more.
It's the goal of Wisconsin Hot Rod Radio to document those clubs through recordings and photographs. To let those young kids of yesterday know that we do appreciate what they were and how they lived. For the young kids of today to know that they are a part of a long tradition.
At the 2010 World of Wheels - Milwaukee, WI - A booth and exhibit was set up so you can see memorbilia and photos from those clubs. The Cruisen Angels brought their original - untouched - through - time club show car from the early 60's. There were "drag plates" from as many car clubs as we can find. And most important...everyone got a chance to meet many of these "young kids" from yester-year. |
